Summer is Here - Your Tan Should Be Too!
How To Build A Base Tan
How Dark Is Your Tan?
Is your tan where you want it to be? I'm sure you find yourself out during the summer months swimming, boating, hanging with friends, or perhaps just walking around enjoying the outside. And what always seems to be the outcome?? Pale legs and pink sunburnt shoulders with straplines or a T-shirt tan - white shoulders and tan arms. Not only does this look ridiculous but it's unhealthy and the burn can hinder your tan. And, of course, we all know none of us get enough Vitamin D during the winter months and Vitamin D is an important factor in good health, for both the body and the mind. It’s good to get a tan.
Where To Tan
When laying out in the sun is not doable, you can head over to the nearest tanning salon and enjoy tanning every other day, perhaps three days a week in order to develop a nice base tan. Every other day will work for some while others need maybe every third day. You won’t gain by trying to tan when you are pink so before you go tanning make sure your skin has recovered from the previous session. Use a good tanning lotion that will take care of your skin and accelerate the body’s natural tanning process. Following these steps will actually help you develop a tan faster. Hopefully, your salon has a knowledgeable attendant who can guide but if not, feel free to email us anytime.
Tanning Lotion
You’ve heard the phrase “don’t tan with nothing on.” This is not about clothing, it's about good tanning products and it's not just about moisture. There are oodles of tanning lotions out there. The really good ones are infused with ingredients that prepare your skin with essentials such as nutrients and antioxidants and work even better when preceded by a scrub. Take the time and do some research. find a product that meets your needs. you may have to try a few before you find the right fit. Then, as your tan develops you can graduate to stronger lotions and even add a tingle or a bronzer to really give your color a boost.
Moisturizer For Tanners
Tanned skin must be cared for. A good moisturizer is a must! Applied in the morning and evening in place of your normal lotion, a moisturizer for tanners will leave your skin soft, smooth, and primed. Look for products designed for tanners, some even have a slight glow or touch of color for enhancement - and watch your tan blossom.
Tanning Outside
Tanning accelerators and moisturizers for tanners are designed to maximize your tan so it’s important to remember that when you head outside. You do not want to overexpose. We typically recommend spending 30 to 60 minutes tanning outside, depending on your skin, and then switching to an SPF so you don’t burn.
No matter where you tan you should always protect your eyes. And no, a towel over your face is not protection enough. Should you overexpose, stay out of the sun until your skin recovers, drink plenty of fluids and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! A sunburn cooler to aid in comfort and healing is great for this.
